Hill of the Citadel (Jabal al Qal'a)
Occupied since the Neolithic period and then the Bronze Age, this hill in the middle of Amman boasts ruins from Roman, Byzantine and Islamic times. See the Temple of Hercules, Byzantine Church, Mosque, Palace Entrance, Cistern and Palace Dome on top of the hill. Enjoy unsurpassed views of the city too!
Madaba 'City of Mosaics', a 20-minute drive away.
Barely half an hour away from Amman, Madaba boasts rich finds in byzantine mosaics attesting to its rich Christian past. The Church of the Map (where the famous map of mosaics is found) and Archaeological Park are worth seeing.
Petra
Although it is four hours south of Amman, Petra is a world treasure that must be visited. It is a window into the capital of the Nabataean civilization dating from the 6th century BC, famous for its intricate buildings carved right into the pink stone in the middle of the dessert.

Ajloun Fort and Forests
