First Clef d'Or in Lebanon awarded to Le Royal's head concierge

Lebanon gains its first Clefs d'Or concierge and paves the way to becoming a member of the prestigious organization.

The Union Internationale des Concierge d'Hotels (UICH), known better as Les Clefs d'Or, is an international network of men and women with common interests and goals. These valiant concierges boast their own mystique, combined expertise, sources of inside information, intelligence and sophisticated level of communication to provide unparalleled service to guests and travellers. The global non-political, non-religious organization is based on friendship between members to assist international tourists in new destinations and enlighten them on the riches of each concierge's host city and country. With Lebanon having such a sophisticated hospitality sector, the organization felt it was time to award its first concierge in the country with the Golden Key, starting with Miled Franciss at Le Royal Hotels & Resorts - Beirut. Franciss has always offered exceptional advice and recommendations to visitors and possesses outstanding knowledge of Lebanon. His readiness to assist guests and make their stay more rewarding has finally been recognized by the UICH.

The origins of the UICH lie in 1929 when Pierre Quentin, Concierge at Hotel Ambassador in Paris and ten other concierges from the city's greatest hotels realized that they could operate more effectively as a team. By joining forces, they made their services more useful and indispensable to visitors. Over the years many other European countries joined, followed by Morocco in 1964. Eventually, countries worldwide joined, including Australia, Brazil, Hong Kong, Mexico, Singapore and many others. Today the organization with its 3000 members represents 39 Member Sections and over 50 countries.

Simon Delcomminette, President of the Luxembourg chapter for many years and Director of The Western European Zone travelled to Lebanon to award Franciss with the Clef d'Or. On September 29, 2011, Franciss was the first Concierge in Lebanon to earn this title, a great privilege for the Front office department and Le Royal.

For the UICH, Lebanon falls under the jurisdiction of Italy, but the designation of its first Clef d'Or and the presence of many luxury hotels represent a strong possibility of opening the country's very own section and chapter. This will cement Lebanon's reputation as a superlative destination in terms of hospitality, taking concierge service to the next level and reflecting its strong, historic European ties in service excellence. In the meantime, from now on Miled Franciss will be wearing the Golden Key on his jacket's lapel with pride. With this exciting and prestigious event, Le Royal expresses a very warm welcome to the Clefs d'Or to Lebanon!
